Gruffalo Trail
"Walk further into the deep dark wood, and discover what happens when the quick-thinking mouse comes face to face with an owl, a fox and a hungry gruffalo... "
The Gruffalo is a story now loved by a generation on children (and adults). We offer it as an integral part of a guided nature walk for all ages. It is a great way to introduce people to the woods, looking at all the signs of nature throughout each season. In particular, it introduces children (and sometimes adults to being in a wood: the sights, smells and sounds.
We start with a brief safety talk, before we all take a walk over to a quieter part of the deep dark wood, where the story will be told with the help of Mouse and Gruffalo (puppets). As part of the walk the children will also be introduced to spotting and understanding signs of woodland animals, and maybe Gruffaloes! This activity requires the children to be observant and good listeners throughout. At the end each child will receive a Gruffalo mask to take home, colour in and keep.
(In the winter months we can always tell the story of "The Gruffalo's Child" instead, for an authentic seasonal touch!).
This activity suits ages 3+ years.
Time span: 1 hour (usually): depending on what you wish. It can be combined with nature ramble to look for animal tracks ands signs, to make an activity of 1.5 hours.
