Gruffalo Trail

"...thank you for a truly delightful morning in the woods. We all learnt such a lot and will be back..."

The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler is a story which has inspired a whole new audience of children and adults to come and explore our woodland. The intention of our Gruffalo Trail activity is to bring you a bit closer to some of the nature that is talked of, and illustrated, in this classic little story. As well as to explain more about some of our native species of trees, plants, fungi and animals; and to introduce you to some of our native folklore too. It's all good fun for young and old(er) alike!

We take a guided walk through the woods for about 45 minutes, find a comfy spot and then sit and "listen to the woods" for a short period: before the Gruffalo story is read for everyone. (In the winter I would look to read The Gruffalo's Child). The whole activity lasts about an hour and a quarter approx.

Please feel free to bring along a picnic blanket to sit on, and a snack if you wish. Poisonous warts, turned out toes and terrible teeth are optional!
