Courses - Nature Awareness & Tracking Weekend
The Green School Nature Awareness & Tracking weekend is designed to allow to get you closer to nature than you may have thought possible. It will teach you many new skills and will prove to be a milestone experience in your life!
We start by teaching you some of the fundamental skills that you need to have for the outdoors, and we adopt a very much "hands-on" approach: where every student is encouraged to participate. You may come on this course without any prior knowledge of tracking & how to do it, but students will come away from this with increased awareness, confidence in the outdoors and the skills to track! Our instructors are on-hand at every step to guide, encourage and support you as you learn; and as always there is a strong focus on safety. Our emphasis is on having fun and enjoying yourself, so please don't come expecting a "boot camp" approach.
Some of the topics that we will cover will include:-
- Tracking history & terminology
- Introducing you to the landscape
- Awakening your senses
- Moving quitely & sensitively
- Using natural camoflage
- Reading the landscape
- Understanding "baseline" of the track
- Bird language: friend & foe
- Trails, runs & feeding signs
- Understanding compression shapes
- Making a tracking stick (includes safe use of a knife)
- Aerial & ground spoor
- Understanding the story within the tracks
Bookings from groups (up to 15 in number) are welcome.
Please Note: Unless otherwise stated this course involves camping in the woods and is entirely self catering, although we will provide all the tea, coffee, hot chocolate and bannock making ingredients! You will need food enough to last you for 2 full days (i.e. 2x 24 hours). If you are unsure please contact us. |
